Overcoming Hurdles

So much work, so much time, it all looks so good and we can’t show a soul.

Isn’t it great when you set a goal, place a deadline to it, and everything comes together and you achieve your every wish. But things don’t always work out as planned. Ok, so you’ve made the decision about what you wish to do, the changes you want to make. The plan of action is sorted and you’ve set out along the path towards making things happen. What happens next? Well in the perfect world it is all plain sailing. It goes to plan and you reach your goal punching the air with joy. Alas in the real world, there are times when things don’t quite go as you wish. In fact you meet a few hurdles along the way.

It’s not time to despair, certainly doesn’t mean you should panic, and definitely isn’t evidence that you should give up. It simply means that you need to adjust your sails.

It’s simply part of the journey we call life, you just need to reset the sails and get back on the right heading. That’s a pretty apt expression with all the stuff about the Titanic voyage in the news recently.

All successful people will experience hurdles during their journey. The road to success is full of bumps and turns, and it is essential you stay strong and focused. Never take your eye of your goal, the final destination you wish to reach.

Throughout life one will come across different hurdles. We are frequently dealing with problems. But if success is to be yours, you have to believe in your destiny, and overcome every hurdle that comes your way. Even when you fall at one, you have to pick yourself up and keep going.

The other day we fell at a hurdle. Our launch of both the wellbeing store and Power of Passion Community was postponed at 1am. Technical problems 1 Online Entrepreneurs 0. Are we disheartened? No. Are we disappointed? Yes. Will we be back at our desks and will be getting things back on track, you can be sure we will.

All good things are worth waiting for. What’s another 48 hours when we have spent two years getting to this point anyway. We know that soon it will all be up and running the way we want, and there is no point in knocking our heads against a brick wall.

This is my philosophy for life. Everything I try I know I will succeed. And if I don’t at first succeed I’ll keep going until I do.

It reminds me of a story I read a while ago.

J.K Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, spoke to the graduating class of Harvard in June 2008.

She didn’t talk about success. She talked about failures. Her own in particular. “You might never fail on the scale I did,” Rowling told the audience. “But it is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all—in which case, you fail by default. Penniless, recently divorced, and raising a child on her own, she wrote the first Harry Potter book on an old manual typewriter.

Twelve publishers rejected the manuscript! A year later she was given the green light by a publisher, who agreed to publish the book but insisted she get a day job cause there was no money in children’s books. Did she give up? We all know she didn’t, and who hasn’t either read one of her books or at least seen one of the movies.

Not everyone who’s on top today got there with success after success. More often than not, those who history best remembers were faced with numerous obstacles that forced them to work harder and show more determination than others.

To succeed as an entrepreneur there is one thing you are going to have to master… never quit. Many of the greatest success stories in history required countless failures at first. Most successful people have faced many failures, but it’s their ability to deal with them that differentiates them, and is ultimately the reason why they succeed. One of the keys to success is persistence.

We seldom get things right the first time we do it. But if you have the determination to try again and again, to get back up after each failure and give it another go, you are giving yourself the best chance of success.

Let me tell you a few of my philosophies on this subject. Be positive that you will eventually be able to find solutions to your problems. Never lose hope. You must believe in your capabilities. Do not underestimate yourself. We all can deal with the situation, however difficult it may be. And know you will always in the end succeed.

Determination to be winner is necessary. One must not give up half way through. One must reach one’s goal. Be assured you will complete your task. Our wellbeing store and our Power of Passion Community will be launching any day now. No hurdle can stop us.

If you are waiting for it, I promise it won’t be long now. Not even technical problems will stop us for good.
