I would like to welcome my friend and an integral part of our new Reinvention University, Maria King who has contributed today’s blog. Let her introduce herself:
My name is Maria King, mother of five , grandmother of eight and full time support worker. My two youngest daughters aged eighteen and fourteen are still at home and I have full time care of two of my grandchildren aged eight and five. Life, as you can imagine, is somewhat busy!
The inspiration for this blog was because my life had literally become a whirlpool of must dos, need tos and have tos! So at fifty four, I decided i needed more from life and set out on a journey of self discovery, an exciting quest to find out how I really wanted to spend the rest of my life!
And here is her article:
Are you living the life you dreamed of as a child? Is your life turning out the way you envisaged it would be?
Do you remember your hopes and dreams or are they forgotten, lost in the grown up world of real life?
So, what happened? Did you take a wrong turn or just get lost on the way. Has life’s ups and downs thrown you into a whirlpool of must dos, need to’s and have to’s?
Do you find yourself daydreaming of winning the lottery and what you would do with the winnings? Just wishing there was another way to put things right.
Imagine what you would do if money was no object. What would your goals be then? Are they different from when you were younger or has your dream remained the same, always hovering in the background, waiting to be realised?
Maybe you have an ok life, nothing to complain about but you find you want more. You don’t feel that sense of personal fulfilment and contentment and you daydream of how things might have been.
We all come to a time in our lives where we do a sort of stock take, we look back at what we done so far and think about what life is really all about and what we want to do next. Some people, even though they aren’t particularly happy with their lot choose to carry on doing the same thing for the rest of their lives, basically until they die and feel that this is just the lot they were given and just get on with it, until they die.
I’m middle aged and damned if I’m going to lie down and give in to getting old quietly! In fact, now more than any other time I want to use this time to achieve my dreams, all of the things I used to dream I would do but haven’t done yet. My bucket list as I call it, all of the things I want to do before I kick it (the bucket that is) 🙂
So come on, do you dare to dream? What’s on your bucket list? Are you sure of how you want your life to go from here, what your purpose is. What your real reason for being here is?
Try this exercise, writing it is rejuvenating, it sets your creative juices going and can get you all excited, making you look forward to the future and all of its possibilities!
Write a list of anything and everything you would still like to do, no matter how impossible they might seem. Then close your eyes and imagine yourself actually doing them one by one. Let your mind linger on it for a while. How did you get there? What did you see yourself doing? Describe what you were doing and where you were in tiny, infinite detail.
Dreams don’t have to remain dreams. You are never too old to achieve whatever you set your heart on, to transform your life but sometimes getting there and actually doing it seems a bit out of reach and we need a bit of help to get there.
The wonderful Larry Lewis offers a Compass for Life Course, which is part of the Reinvention University ,a free twelve week course where you will have your very own personal coach to support and guide you. This course will give you the specific steps which will lead to your own personal plan so that you can get ready to achieve all of those dreams you have put on hold, until now that is!
One life. Your life. It’s not a rehearsal and we can’t come back and put it right…
So, tell me, do you Dare to Dream?
Leave a comment and tell me what your dreams are, I’d love to hear from you!
