This weekend found many of us impacted massively by the situation in Paris with the dreadful atrocities carried out on Friday. So many people had their lives cut short and this should remind us to appreciate every day that we live. I felt compelled to reflect on this heinous event and use it to demonstrate some very important ways to live our life because we really never know when our last day will be.
Many lives were lost, and thousands more will never be the same. My heart goes out to those affected.
We all need to be woken up by such a terrible event. Of course mourning for the wasted lives that have been cut short, feel for their families for their loss, and for the survivors who have lived through such a dreadful nightmare.
These horrific events make you realise how important it is to appreciate every day that you live because you never know what tomorrow holds. This isn’t a blog to show my anger or disgust for what has been done, but a reminder for each of us how important it is to live life fully every day.
Jack London the American author, journalist, and social activist said:
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
My health problems together with my loss of sight seem trivial when you look at events around the world where so many people are being killed, but I believe things I’ve learnt will help anyone get through their tough times.
We only get one Life
Life is not a dress rehearsal. We can’t put it on hold while we earn our money, create the lifestyle we want or achieve any of our goals. Our clock is ticking and should remind us to live always as though tomorrow may never come. Live life fully, where happiness and joy are a constant, where love is our energy. We can’t afford to waste any time.
Live in the Moment
We have to appreciate and be grateful for every day and every moment, taking from them everything that we possibly can, because we don’t know what tomorrow has in store for us what it can bring, or what it can take away. We have to live for today and don’t let anything hold us back cherishing every moment we have
Be present and mindful!
Mindfulness is about choosing to fully experience the moment that you are in. Stopping to breathe deeply and just be present in everything that you do. By doing this, by being this way you will now be treating every second of your life as a gift to treasure and enjoy.
When death strikes, our world changes. We have to do something to make this change for the better. For many it will get you to follow your calling, to search for meaning, purpose and joy in the “now.” This is all about making your life matter, doing something significant. We all can find the one thing we could do to make the world a better place, and after an event like in Paris, isn’t it now obvious that we all should look at how to make the world a better place.
Appreciate those magic moments
There is absolute joy and wonder to be had in the simplest of moments. Watching the sunset over the horizon, watching the first step taken by a child, or spending time simply to appreciate nature and the beauty around us.
Nothing is more important than your loved ones
The most important things in life are those you love. Be grateful for what you have, who loves you, and who cares for you. You’ll never know how much they mean to you until the day they’re no longer beside you. Show those you love how much you love them. A kiss a cuddle or a text message or a phone call or email showing our appreciation and love for any them is essential.
Time is precious, and it shouldn’t be wasted.
When we are close to taking our last breath we will regret things said or not said, done or not done. We wonder why we didn’t do things differently and why we didn’t cherish the relationships that we were given in our lives.
Money isn’t Everything
Life has so many surprises, twists, turns, obstacles, ups, downs, it is vital not to allow our materialistic attitude to dominate our lives. Money isnt everything and cant buy either health or happiness. We can always replace those things that money buys, but we can never replace our lost days or our lost loved ones.
Never Give Up
We mustn’t spend time bemoaning our situation wherever it is we feel life has taken us. My life doesn’t always look exactly like I want it to. I spend many days struggling with my health. I’ve lost a lot at times meeting failure head on but never did I allow this to dictate the remainder of my life. I always knew I’d turn things around. Beauty of the human spirit is that it is so strong; it can overcome almost anything.
You can’t fully appreciate today if you worry too much about tomorrow. Realize that tomorrow is going to happen whether you worry about it or not. And since worry has never accomplished anything for anybody, redirect your mental energy elsewhere.
You’ll never find a happy person who spends so much of their time complaining. You may be struggling, it could be financially or medically, yet there will be something that can make you smile. Think about this and talk about it instead of energising your problems by focusing so much of your time on them.
And finally, no matter how much I believe in the power of goals I want to offer you some words that I’d like you to think about:
“Don’t allow dreaming of tomorrow to substitute living in today.” Larry Lewis
